Economics of IT are changing and becoming more demanding than ever before. Dramatic growth in popularity of the Internet coupled with commoditization and standardization of technologies, in part to virtualization and the rise of service-oriented software architectures have given rise to the need for organizations to become innovative in their approaches. Agility and cost reduction have become the hard truth for any CIO.

The landscape of IT operations is witnessing a paradigm shift from traditional approaches. Newer effective means of Collaboration and communication is challenging the status quo in the IT market. The future lies not in one but in the rightful amalgamation of web, cloud, content and mobile (WCCM), all in one. There is long journey ahead but it heralds an evolution of business that is no less influential than e-business.

Operating on the cloud provides a stronger platform for collaborating with business partners, external agencies all at a significantly reduced cost. Ability to migrate enterprise systems and data-intensive applications coupled with real-time scalability, on-demand usage and economics, provides the flexibility that CIO’s were long looking for. On the other hand, the emergence of mobile technology still needs to traverse a long way before complete user buy-in picks up. The major challenge will revolve around ease of usability with users now addicted to big desktop spaces to work with and around security of data exchange that happens over the mobile network.
